Compass Birmingham MHST enjoyed an informative guest visit to learn about Kwanzaa.
Dakarai and Abiodun, family friends of Rachel Haynes, Clinical Operations Manager, joined the team to provide insight into the cultural celebration.
Kwanzaa takes place from 26th December to 1st January, and is a celebration of heritage amongst people of African descent. People from any religious practice or spiritual belief system can partake. It is widely observed in Birmingham as well as many other cities in the UK and internationally.
During the visit, the team were able to ask questions about about Kwanzaa and African culture.
Leanne Bailey, Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner, said: “It was really lovely. I went home and told my kids about it, and I have thought about how I can teach my own children about it further.”
Dakarai and Abiodun shared how welcoming and warm the team were to them and discussions were had about celebrating Kwanzaa as an office in the future.
