Changing Lives welcomes Centres of Excellence in Derby City and Erewash

Welcoming New Centres of Excellence in Derby City and Erewash

Published on: January 9, 2025

Changing Lives is expanding once again, welcoming two more Centres of Excellence in Derby City and Erewash, further increasing the mental health support they can offer the children and young people of Derbyshire.

This is part of the Wave 12 expansion, the two more Centres of Excellence will bring with them two more Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) and many more primary and secondary feeder schools. These schools will benefit from Changing Lives’ whole school approach to children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing support.

The MHST for the Erewash area will have The Long Eaton School as its Centre of Excellence, directly supporting over 20 schools in the surrounding area in South Derbyshire.

Derby City will get another MHST, this time centred on Derby College as its Centre of Excellence. This team will bring even more coverage to the schools of central Derby.

Changing Lives expanded twice 2024. In January, as part of the Wave 10 expansion, they added two new MHSTs for the High Peak and South Derbyshire areas, and with them two new Centres of Excellence in Glossopdale School and Granville Academy.

Later in the year, in June, they expanded to include an Early Intervention and Targeted Support Service, taking over from Action for Children.

With it their remit opened up to include every child and young person in Derby and Derbyshire. From here, Changing Lives adopted a “One Front Door” policy, so that wherever in Derbyshire the child or young person was, all they had to do was get in touch with Changing Lives and they would receive parity of care.

The new Wave 12 expansion will aid Changing Lives in achieving this mission, directly supporting more schools to support their students, through their whole school approach.

Chantelle Ross, Service Manager at Compass Changing Lives, had the following to say:

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming The Long Eaton School and Derby College to Changing Lives as our new Centres of Excellence, and working with their staff to help even more young people around Derby and Derbyshire.”
