Today is International Women’s Day, taking its place in Women’s History Month. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate incredible women and gender fluid people around the world and throughout history.
Compass Changing Lives would simply not exist if it were not for the many women who lead us, develop us and make up the majority of our growing team. From our directors to our practitioners, this representation means that gender parity and non-discrimination is at the forefront of our goals and values.
Embedded within our mission is our drive to provide services to children and young people to promote emotional wellbeing and good mental health. As a result, we work with girls, young women and gender fluid children across Derby and Derbyshire to give all the support we can.
This support is essential, as women face unique challenges with their mental health, particularly young women. Young women are 3 times more likely than young men to experience a range of mental health problems and experience anxiety at a higher rate than any other group.
People who do not conform to gender norms face additional challenges that can have a significant impact on their mental health and wellbeing. It is essential that we as a society work to address these issues and create a world where nobody is disadvantaged or discriminated against because of their gender identity.
We at Compass Changing Lives are committed to gender parity, and will continue to empower, support and encourage everyone within our service to work towards a world where difference is valued and celebrated.
What woman in your life has inspired you? Take the time to tell them today.
