PROTECT: Empowering Young People in Warwickshire

What is Protect?

PROTECT is a vital initiative in Warwickshire, offering a comprehensive condom distribution and pregnancy testing service tailored specifically for young people. This program, commissioned by Warwickshire County Council, is designed to ensure that young people have access to the resources and support they need to make informed and safe decisions regarding their sexual health.

Sexual health education and access to resources are fundamental for young people. PROTECT addresses a crucial need by providing:

  • Condom Distribution: Easy access to condoms helps prevent unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), promoting safer sexual practices among young people.
  • Pregnancy Testing: Accessible and confidential pregnancy testing provides early support and guidance, helping young people to make informed decisions and access appropriate care if needed.

These services are essential for empowering young people to take control of their sexual health and make informed choices, reducing the risks associated with unsafe sexual practices and unplanned pregnancies.

What Does the Training Involve?

To ensure the effective delivery of these services, PROTECT offers training facilitated by the RSHE (Relationships, Sex, and Health Education) Lead. The training is designed to equip you and your team with everything needed to provide these essential services, including:

  • Safeguarding Measures: Learn how to protect young people’s safety and confidentiality while delivering services.
  • Law on Consent: Understand the legal aspects of consent, ensuring that services are provided in a manner that respects and upholds young people’s rights.
  • Fraser Competence: Gain insights into Fraser Competence, which assesses whether a young person can make informed decisions about their own sexual health care.
  • Youth-Friendly Service Delivery: Master practical strategies for offering a supportive, approachable, and engaging service that resonates with young people.

Why is the Training Important?

The training is not only comprehensive but also engaging and interactive, designed to make learning both effective and enjoyable. Feedback from previous participants has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the training’s impact on their ability to deliver these crucial services confidently and effectively.

By participating in PROTECT, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to support young people in Warwickshire with sensitivity and expertise, helping them navigate their sexual health with confidence and care.
